E-lympic Participation Report
About E-lympic
E-lympic will be a modern mobility hub next to the Olympic Stadium, replacing the current TotalEnergies gas station. This hub will offer fast-charging points for electric vehicles, shared transport options, and additional facilities like a coffee corner, shop, and meeting spaces. The aim is to make the area more sustainable, accessible, and enjoyable for residents.
Participation Process
The participation process took place from October 7 to 14, 2024, during which we engaged with over 130 local residents and business owners. Their feedback is helping us to better align E-lympic with the needs of residents and businesses in the Stadion neighborhood.
Key Themes
1. Concerns About Traffic Congestion
Residents expressed concerns about increased traffic caused by construction and changes to local traffic patterns. To address this, the project team will provide clear information about alternative gas stations nearby. Concerns were also raised about potential disturbances from shared transport, especially scooters. To mitigate this, E-lympic will focus on shared cars and bikes only.
2. Accessibility of Shared Transport
The option to use shared transport at E-lympic was generally well-received, with interest in more information and clear explanations. There was also interest in a special offer for neighborhood residents, such as discounts on subscriptions. The project team is exploring these possibilities. Collaborations with additional services are also being investigated and will be added where possible.
3. Desired Additional Facilities
Residents appreciated the ideas for a shop, public restroom, and car wash facilities, which would also cater to gas vehicles. These options are being further explored for E-lympic’s final setup. The proposed parcel lockers received more critical feedback, primarily due to concerns about increased traffic. Therefore, the project team is reconsidering this option.
4. Charging Facilities
Concerns were raised about improper parking at charging stations and potential overloading of the electricity grid. However, fees will be charged to ensure availability for all users if vehicles remain plugged in longer than required. Sufficient capacity has also been requested for the 18 fast chargers. The project team does not expect difficulties in these areas.
5. Collaborations
Residents and business owners are enthusiastic about potential collaborations with local initiatives such as the mobility service “Heen en Weer” and sustainable partners like the Zuiderlicht energy cooperative. There was also discussion of sustainable hospitality initiatives and the integration of art and cultural elements into the public space. The project team will continue discussions with these potential partners.
Next Steps
The project team will use the feedback provided to further shape E-lympic. Residents and business owners will be informed well in advance about the closure of the gas station and current facilities, such as the car wash.
